Have you ever asked yourself where your data goes the second you use AI? Somewhere. The question is, where is that somewhere? If it's on the cloud, then it's not secure for the most part because you're already exposed to the internet. This is why a lot of institutions, especially the ones that care about confidentiality, bring their stuff to the inside.
Welcome to self-hosting. Now, self-hosting means bringing a solution and completely installing it on your infrastructure. Your rules, your control. and better, no internet whatsoever. If you did not know about the risk of the cloud, let me share some. Your data is not really your data.
It's in somebody else's data center, and this is not good. Another thing is downtime. Can you really be online all the time? With on-premise, you can work with AI in your data even if you don't have internet connection. You control your destiny. So if you're regulated by a central bank, if you're regulated, let's say, a big institution, you can do that to follow compliance.
But if you really care about your customer's data, you're going to do that anyways. Imagine you have personal records of clients. Do you really want to put that on the internet? I don't think so. Security does matter to you big time. Now hackers are going to have a much harder time penetrating your infrastructure if you're on premise within your control distant from the internet.
